"Wacky Uniform Wednesdays"

Have you ever tipped your server more because the uniform she/he was wearing? Maybe because she/he was attractive, but a terrible server?  I believe that the uniform has a lot to do with how you tip your server. Of course your going to look at how your being treated, but your appearance really does matter.
The girls at the bottom are very unlikely to be taken seriously, maybe even laughed at, and are probably not going to receive a very good tip.
However, the Hooters girl, who is very attractive and spunky, will probably have better luck in one night of serving than in a whole week for the other girls.
Now I said I believe that the way you look has a lot to do with how you get tipped, but I did not say I agreed with it. There should be no difference, but the truth is that the world is.
The uniform we wear in our work place can also effect our attitudes. The girls at the bottom are probably constantly being made fun of, therefore they come to work discouraged.
On the other hand, the Hooters girl is most likely excited to work because she knows she looks good, will not get made fun of, and will make good tips by simply looking good.
At the Olive Garden, our uniforms are extrmemly uncomfortable, not flirtacious at all, and cover about ever inch of our bodies. I wonder if we had uniforms like Hooters, how much more I would make.
So , the next time your out, pay attention to the uniform  in whatever resturant you may be and see if that affects the way you tip your server.

"The Climb"

Every day, getting up and going to work, just like for many others, is a struggle. Sometimes a smile is the hardest thing to do even if I try hard enough.  Having to tend to others needs and maintaining a positive attitude sometimes can be a climb, but in order to receive good tips you have to fake a smile.
I cannot say that serving is a pleasure. At times it can be especially if the guest acknowledges you as a person.
There have many times that people have treated me like I did not exist, like I wasn’t the one serving them their drinks, food, and taking care of them.
Treating every single guest like family is my
goal, but by the end of the day my frustration gets the best of me.
There have been times I have literally went into the freezer and screamed as loud as I could.
Serving is such a fast pace job that sometimes your body seems to move faster than your brain does. When I am walking to the entrance it feels almost as if I am climbing a tall mountain, one such as the image in this post.
This photo describes what I go through or what every server goes through. No matter how high the mountain, however, you have to keep climbing, keep shining, and make that money.

"We are Going to make it Easy on You"

Working for Olive Garden here in Mishawaka is a delightful experience at times, but like any other job it can be stressful at times. If you have ever ate at Olive Garden maybe you have heard about the all you can eat soup, salad, and breadsticks.
This is advertised on commercials all the time and is a good deal, but hearing the words, "Were going to make it easy on you. I’ll have the soup, salad, and breadsticks." is like hearing sharp nails screeching on a chalk board.
Serving our guests the unlimited amounts of soup, salad, and breadsticks is the hardest and most annoying job at the Olive Garden, especially if you're a big eater.
Every single soup, salad, and breadstick you consume is rapidly prepared in the back by us and only us. We fight in the back about who will refill the pan with the freshly prepared soup from the cooks, and we rush to get the chunkiest parts of the soup. Just how you like it.
If you have ever eaten our soup and you noticed it was pure broth, now you know why.
The race to take as many breadsticks as you can before they run out or get cold is a constant battle amongst us Olive Garden servers and sometimes if you’re lucky, you will arrive to a brand new freshly cooked batch.
The stressful job of soup, salad, and breadsticks is extremely tiring, but the worst part about it is that tip you receive for all that running doesn’t ever exceed $2, due to the price of the special.
Being a server for Olive Garden, like I said before, is a pleasure, but Mr. Soup, Salad, and Breadstick Special, we servers despise you!

The World of Serving

This blog is meant to inform you all about the juicy life of working for the serving industry, varying from fast food serving all the way to fine dining. You will learn about what exactly it is that we do, how difficult it really is, and general interesting facts about food serving. Being a server for six years now, it is important to make sure that all of you out there understand a couple of things about the life of serving.
I will let you in on experiences I have encountered in the past with people who I have served, the most embarrassing moments I have endured, and what it is that we servers do when we leave the table. Many of you out there are unaware of half the things we do to keep you happy, but here in this blog you will become aware of all of these things. If you think that we don’t talk about you, we most certainly do.
Tipping will obviously be an important topic discussed in this blog mostly because it is how we servers survive, unless they are working in a fast food chain. As unbelievable as it sounds, there are still many people out there that are not aware that they have to tip, how much to tip, and many are not aware that all servers receive, in Indiana, a whopping $2.13 an hour. Welcome to the interesting, dificult, and racy world of serving.
