"The Climb"

Every day, getting up and going to work, just like for many others, is a struggle. Sometimes a smile is the hardest thing to do even if I try hard enough.  Having to tend to others needs and maintaining a positive attitude sometimes can be a climb, but in order to receive good tips you have to fake a smile.
I cannot say that serving is a pleasure. At times it can be especially if the guest acknowledges you as a person.
There have many times that people have treated me like I did not exist, like I wasn’t the one serving them their drinks, food, and taking care of them.
Treating every single guest like family is my
goal, but by the end of the day my frustration gets the best of me.
There have been times I have literally went into the freezer and screamed as loud as I could.
Serving is such a fast pace job that sometimes your body seems to move faster than your brain does. When I am walking to the entrance it feels almost as if I am climbing a tall mountain, one such as the image in this post.
This photo describes what I go through or what every server goes through. No matter how high the mountain, however, you have to keep climbing, keep shining, and make that money.

  1. That's too bad that your job is so stressful. At my job I sometimes encounter people who are rude. I also encounter people who make my job more difficult but don't realize it. I'd be interested in hearing more ways that people unintentionally cause stress to waiter/esses.

  2. This reminds me of a conversation I recently had with someone about the rudeness of customers in the food service industry. It seems that no matter what the actual issue is, the person that the customer is directly interacting with is always blamed, which is extremely unfair. Aside from that, I can sympathize with work or school being an uphill battle. While I don't know how to change the food service industry, I can say that the way things are done now seems really unfair to employees.
